ARCEVAL

Architecture evaluation – reflecting on software architectures - iSAQB Module ARCEVAL (2 days)

All Seminars

Putting Software Systems to the Test

Architecture evaluation is a central tool for gaining confidence in architectural design, and for being able to further develop existing solutions or solution approaches in a focused and sustainable way. Or to discard them in an informed manner. Above all, architecture evaluation fosters communication and transparency; applied correctly, it fits perfectly into a contemporary approach.

Agenda

Introduction and Motivation
What are architecture evaluations, architecture reviews or software reviews, and what approaches exist for them?

Starting Point
What benefit and goals underlie architecture evaluations?

Methodology
How do you develop an evaluation standard?

Concretizing Requirements
How do you refine qualitative requirements into quality scenarios (Utility Tree)?

ATAM
What does the ATAM – Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method – deliver?

Architecture Evaluation in Practice
How does workshop-based architecture evaluation work in practice?

Looking Beyond
When are alternative evaluation methods (such as DCAR, PBAR, CBAM, TARA) useful?

Analysis
What can static and dynamic analysis tools deliver when evaluating existing system (parts)?

Focusing
How do you prepare the results of an evaluation?

Process
How do you embed evaluation methods into (agile) development processes?

Why embarc?

We have a unique wealth of experience in architecture reviews, reflected in regular publications, for example most recently on LASR. In our seminar, you learn to evaluate existing and planned architectures using field-tested methods. This gives you clarity about risks, trade-offs, and suitable solution options for your specific environment. You practice facilitating structured evaluation workshops, making technical decisions traceable, and providing stakeholders with transparent decision bases.

Target Audience

This workshop is primarily aimed at architects and designers who want to gain practical access to architecture evaluation. Interested developers, for example from the agile space, or technical project leads, will also find valuable ideas. Knowledge of architecture patterns and design principles, as well as practical experience in software architecture and development, are an advantage.

iSAQB Accredited

In our seminar, we implement the learning goals of the iSAQB curriculum ARCEVAL in a modern, hands-on and interactive way. On your way to becoming a Certified Professional for Software Architecture (CPSA) Advanced, you receive 20 methodological Credit Points.

Photo Log
All exercise results and theoretical content shown are made available to participants electronically afterwards.

Official Certificate of Participation
In this seminar, participants are awarded 20 methodological Credit Points for the iSAQB® CPSA-Advanced Level with a perpetually valid iSAQB® certificate.

Additionally ...
Architecture reviews create transparency in software development, identify risks and uncover trade-offs. With the fourth edition of our architecture cheat sheets, we offer you a well-founded overview of the topic: Architektur-Reviews (PDF, 4 pages, German).
